These older school age children are at a time of great change! They exhibit growth in logical and abstract thinking. This time period also accentuates their independence as their own identity is developing. Peers are a very important influence.
This is a time when children are given more responsibilities like advanced home work, longer school projects and family chores. The development of positive self images and self- esteem are very important at this time. The need for “alone time” to create an interest or hobby is not uncommon. Interesting and advanced kits, brain-teasers and challenging strategic games will help stimulate this age group. Active play and exercise are also very important at this stage as well. This is a great time for exploration and curiosity so that specific interests and skills can be further developed.
